Hope for 3: Mary's cancer fight

Please help Mary (Premo) Doherty, her husband Tom, and their baby Isla Rose who is due this month!

At 26 years old & 26 weeks pregnant Mary was diagnosed with stage 2a Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

As many of you already know,
Mary is a warm, fun-loving, gregarious, compassionate, Preschool Teacher, who always loves a good joke, and has the most hearty and contagious laugh!

Mary and Tom were married in July 2016 and a few months later they got the exciting news that Mary was pregnant! On Christmas Day, they announced to family that their baby was A GIRL!


In mid January, Mary found out, unfortunately, that she had Placenta Previa and would most likely need a C section. Doctors suggested she take time off from her physically demanding teaching job.

Around this time Mary noticed a lump near her collar bone. After a few tests, she underwent surgery on Feb 28th, to biopsy the lump.
The results were heartbreaking. CANCER.
Placenta Previa, recovery from surgery, and now cancer, Mary was forced to go on leave from her teaching job.

A preliminary MRI showed that the cancer is confined to the upper chest area with multiple nodules and a mass in her chest the size of an orange.


Mary and Tom will meet with her team of doctors in the next few weeks to determine a delivery date in May for baby Isla.

Two weeks after delivery Mary will have a PET scan to more accurately diagnose the extent of the Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and will know in more detail what lies ahead. The amount of radiation in the PET scan will keep her from holding her baby for twelve hours!

Within 4 weeks of baby Isla's delivery, Mary will begin Chemo therapy.



While we are so excited to meet baby Isla, the cloud of Chemo, its side effects and the long journey ahead are looming.
Mary and Tom have been very upbeat and positive for encountering so many obstacles, and of course, in true Mary fashion, it never hurts to joke around.

We ask for your prayers for Mary and Tom and their brand new little family, as well as any and all donations you could spare to help them, even if just a little! Donations will be directly applied to all her medical bills, food, gas, utilities, and baby formula (due to the chemo therapy Mary will need to formula feed Isla).
