How Tom found HOPE for his family.

On October 26th, 2016, the Wednesday before Halloween, Tom timidly knocked on the side door of HOPE’s food pantry just as they were closing. He was greeted by on of HOPE’s staff.  Standing at Tom’s sides were his eleven year old daughter and his five year old son. He explained that he had just started a new job and would not be paid until next Friday.  With great pain, he apologized for bothering the staff member, but he was desperate as he didn't have anything at home to feed his children. He asked humbly if HOPE could help them.  They were welcomed inside with a smile.  Tom received groceries to last until his first pay check. In addition, through HOPE’s Attic, his son was provided a Halloween costume and both children were given coats and winter clothing.

This is just one of the many success stories that illustrate the mission and spirit of HOPE, a 501 (c) 3 operating since 2007.

Today, HOPE needs your immediate help to continue their food pantry and clothing services. The need is profound as one in seven Coloradoans don’t know where their next meal is coming from and half are children.  A donation of $20.00 can provide 15 meals to those in need. Together we can keep HOPE thriving.

Helping Our People Excel (H.O.P.E.), currently provides 5,000 to 6,000 lbs. of groceries each week through a self-select food pantry which supports hundreds of households in the Greater Englewood area. HOPE needs to raise a minimum of $50,000 to maintain their current service level through September 2017. Thank you for your compassion and generosity.

HOPE continues to provide dignified hunger relief through community partnerships. This past week, Keller Williams Park Meadows and the Englewood USPS provided over 23,000 lbs. of non-perishable food to HOPE through their annual food drives. These efforts are vital to complementing our weekly food support from local grocers and individual donors. All of this of course ensures that HOPE is always able to provide food to anyone needing assistance from our pantry.

22 energetic and smiling preteens from St Andrews United Methodist Church volunteered 3 hours of their time this past Saturday to assist HOPE. They did a lot of cleaning, weeding and sorting food. They also got to cool off in HOPE's big commercial walk-in refrigerator. Most importantly, they demonstrated the many wonderful values that they have learned through their youth ministry. Their enthusiasm, compassion and desire to help their fellow human was inspiring. We are so grateful to them for contributing to our mission.

That's the spirit of HOPE.

This earthy, gritty, big hearted organization with a bad paint job and slightly weathered volunteers has been doing its thing for 10 years now. That thing is feeding people who are facing challenging times. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea. In fact, we know that there some in today’s society who question the morality of giving to others. Well, we don’t. We look at people and see value just because they are. Every human is important, even those who embrace different values. That’s how we roll.

This year alone HOPE has provided over 100,000 lbs. of free groceries to over 1,100 households facing challenging times. The people we serve are working adults with children, seniors, and in general folks who simply need some relief and to know that they are not bad people because they are in a difficult situation. The good news is most of the people we serve use the pantry 3 or fewer times before getting back on their feet.

So here it is. The world changes and organizations, like people, have to adapt. HOPE is in the process of restructuring, but we need more time. Please make a donation today. Any amount is a treasure because in the end, it’s about taking care of each other.

Embrace the Spirit of HOPE!
