Hope for the Harms Family

Don protégé
This story breaks my heart. I worked with Holly and we became close. Her husbands health took center stage in August 2015. Let's all help take care of this beautiful family and help Dan Harms beat cancer!
July 18, 2015 was one of the happiest days of their lives. They were just one week from celebrating their daughter's first birthday when they found out they were expecting a second little one! They were over the moon excited. Who would have thought that in just 2 short weeks later their world would be turned upside down by the most devastating disease on this earth.
During a routine procedure they found out that Holly's husband, Dan had a very rare form of cancer. So rare he is only the 3rd person to get it and figuring out the best approach to treatment felt more like a guessing game. They began the two hour drive to be seen at MUSC, since this cancer is so rare. The original tumor was removed in October of 2015 and he was to wait 6 months to heal before they talked about reconstruction. In March 2016 their beautiful baby boy was born and all of Dan's test came back clean meaning they could proceed with reconstruction. This was scheduled for the middle of May so Holly could help with his recovery before going back to work from maternity leave. It was during this surgery that they did a random biopsy, which came back positive for cancer. They then scheduled another surgery 7 weeks later to remove the rest of the cancer.
August 9, 2016 is the day their world came crashing down. This was the day of his third surgery to remove the cancer. When they went in they could visibly see the tumor, where before it was just microscopic, and it had also spread tracking up his urethra heading towards his bladder. So this tumor was different from the first and was much more aggressive than the first. They decided that radical surgery to remove it was the only way. So on September 1, 2016 they went in to remove his the majority of his urethra, his prostate, and his bladder forming an ileual conduit for his urine. They also told him he was going to have to do chemo and radiation to treat this rare form of cancer. Due to the fact that Holly's husband had been through all of this and still had chemo and radiation ahead was pulling Holly every direction thinking about her work as an RN, her role as wife and mother and friend to many. He was going to be unable to help care for their 2 little ones while she worked as a RN at a local hospital. So the decision was made that She would stay at home with the babies and help him to heal, making sure he was at all of his appointments in Charleston as well as Beaufort,
These last 8 months or so have not been easy on any of them but they fighters and are doing what it takes to get through this.
Nothing in life is more precious than family and Holly is now at home full time providing continuous care for her husband and family.
Please help them as they have massive amounts of medical bills now and Dan is currently in the hospital.
