Hope for Kristin's Recovery

UPDATE:

Kristin has been in treatment for one month and is stabilizing and engaging in the hard work of recovery. Please consider
helping her continue this life-saving journey.
Healing begins while we're still in pain.
Reconciliation begins while we're still at war.
There is no bridge to cross,
until the fear of where we are,
is greater than the fear of the unknown.
Then we will make the jump.
The truth will set us free.

I reached out to you a month ago because I finally started a GoFundMe for my daughter, Kristin Hersh.
So many of you came to Kristin’s aid when she was attacked 26 months ago, and we are grateful for that much-needed
support.

She has had a hard time getting back on her feet. She’s haunted by the trauma, experiencing overwhelming anxiety,
depression, shame, and has self-medicated in destructive ways. She’s had a hard time working, struggled to even leave her
home, has not been eating, and even when I tried to take her on a vacation in September, she was a hollow ghost of herself. When we returned, her mental state was so fragile, she attempted to sell her belongings and move into homelessness.

On October 2, she had a psychotic break. On October 8, she was hospitalized - near death. She begged me to find her
long-term, trauma-informed care. Her insurance is Colorado Medicaid and it pays for no inpatient treatment. Kristin has
utilized the Medicaid mental health care system for two years, and it has only been able to offer her more medications and 1 hour of therapy a month.

On October 14, Kristin entered a small, humble women’s only trauma-informed dual diagnosis treatment facility. My
parents and I have been able to pay for a few weeks. At a discounted rate, it is $15,000 a month. Since then, the caregivers
of this facility have sat by Kristin’s bed in the hospital, formed a thorough treatment plan, and begun to give her hope that
she can recover her life.

Mental illness is hard to watch. It’s hard to understand. It has cost Kristin some family, friends, and almost took her life. She recently told her therapist, “I’m not afraid to die. I’m afraid to keep living this way.”

So many of us have families in crisis. I know there is great need all around us, but I know intimately of my daughter’s need
right now. She cannot continue to get the help she needs without the help of others.

As a humbled, raggedy single mom who is so grateful Kristin is still alive, I am asking for your prayers and financial help. I
consider every day of her treatment a gift, but the reality is that every day of treatment costs $500.

Kristin was made by her Creator to be a light in this world. When she is healthy, she is a passionate woman who longs to
give her life away to something greater than herself.

If you can help with even a few hours of treatment for my dear daughter, I will be forever grateful. Whether you can help or not, please join me in praying that Kristin will be restored to live out the story God intended for her to live.

Gratefully, Sharon
