Hope & Healing - Pat's SCT Journey

My beautiful, kind, fun-loving mother, Pat Meyers, is undergoing a Stem Cell Transplant as part of her journey to overcome Myelofibrosis (MF).  Her care thus far, and the treatments to come will place a significant financial burden on her (more below).  My aunt and I have started this fund to hopefully relieve some of this stress from my mother, so she can "live long and prosper."

A bit of history...MF is a serious bone marrow disorder that basically prevents the body from creating its own blood cells.  Mom has been battling this condition for nearly a year, ever since it progressed from a prior blood disorder she managed for a decade.  The treatments for MF have included weekly transfusions, frequent visits to hematologists, hospital stays, more medicines than a pharmacy (so it has seemed), and as you can imagine, quite a lot of money.  Mom is currently at Moffitt Cancer Center receiving chemotherapy, and is expected to receive her transplant (her new birthday!) on March 20th.  She will be in the hospital for several weeks, after which she is required to stay near the hospital (3 hours from home) for several months to receive follow-up care. 

The funds raised through this project will go toward post-transplant expenses not covered by her insurance: medications, transportation, and lodging (imagine the cost of staying in a hotel for 75+ days!)  We have had several people ask how they can help support mom through all of this, so we thought setting up this page might be one way, especially since many of her friends and loved ones live far from Moffitt. 

If you've never met my mom, she is a very sweet lady who goes out of her way to help others.  She loves Star Trek, music, reading, going to the movies, chatting with friends, her dog Penny, the ocean, and her church.  She rarely ever asks for help for herself, and doesn't even know (yet) that we have set this page up for her.  She has handled this entire ordeal with the strength and grace of a true believer, and is honestly an inspiration.  If you feel moved to donate, any amount would be greatly appreciated.   Thank you in advance.  :)
