Atta Elayyan tragically lost his life along with 48 other worshippers during the Christchurch mosque terror attacks.

He leaves behind his wife, his infant daughter, and his grieving parents (including injured father, one of the founders and caretakers of Al Noor Mosque). He was taken from his family and friends who are scattered all around the world but are united in mourning him as well as the rest of the victims.

We are his cousins in America, Canada, Britain, Jordan, Kuwait, Palestine. We may live far apart but in our hearts we are his brothers and sisters, we love him so much, he was our big brother. We all knew him as the kindest soul, a great son, wonderful nephew, loving husband, amazing dad.  We will always remember his ever-present smile and his easily triggered laugh.  We weep for his daughter who will grow up to know her father only through the fondest memories and stories told by all the people he's touched. We are all shaken today.

Please help us honour Atta. Please help us support his family rebuild through these extraordinarily tragic times.  Help us show the families of Christchurch that there is love. Love from family, friends, and kind strangers that will always shine a light through the darkness of hate and violence.

Atta was one of us. The 49 were us.

We are so grateful for all your prayers and support.

This campaign is being organized by Mohammad Al-Ashqar, first cousin of Atta, on behalf of Atta's extended family. Primarily as a way for relatives around the world to send support, but we appreciate all support from friends and kind donors.

All funds raised will be go directly to Atta's family to help cover immediate costs such as funeral expenses, support for other victims' families, and mosque repairs.

We continue to be so grateful for your support of Atta's family and those impacted by this tragedy. As Atta's cousin, I'll be withdrawing on behalf of his family in New Zealand. They've given their permission for me to help them with this part of the process, and the GoFundMe team is kindly facilitating this. Thank you again, and please continue to share this campaign so that Atta's legacy can live on.

I want to thank all the kind people who have contributed so far.
We are now organizing delivery of the money to Atta's family with GoFundMe.
Atta's parents reassure us that his family have been left financially secure. We have left it to them to put the money in Atta's honour where it may be most beneficial. The plan is to use all of your contributions towards funding education programmes for children. Some of you may know that Atta's parents were among the founders of Masjid Al-Noor, and also founded and ran nurseries and were passionate about education. Atta Elayyan himself was a member of the board of trustees of the Al-Noor Charitable Trust which ran the mosque and it's associated nurseries and other community services.
We believe in 'Sadaqa Jariya', which roughly translates to 'charity that keeps on giving'. We trust that all of our contributions will continue to bring benefit to society for generations to come by helping nurture and educate children who will grow and do good and pass on the good of their educations. We pray that Atta, and all of us who contributed to this campaign in his honour, will continue to receive the spiritual rewards of our Sadaqa Jariya even after our passing. We pray that Atta finds contentment in the hereafter, and that we find contentment in this life though we grieve and miss him sorely, knowing that we are charitably supporting what Atta supported.
Atta tragically died in Masjid Al-Noor, the mosque his family founded and served their community with for years, along with 50 of his friends and co-religionists. I find it fitting that the money raised in his honour will go to its school programme. The killer's hate comes from ignorance. We counter it with love and education.

"O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted." Qur'an (49:13)

Goal of £20,000 surpassed in less than 48 hours!

Words cannot describe how grateful we all are after such generosity and selflessness. This is all a testament to Atta's good character and the impression he has left on so many people during his life, as well as after as people read about how he lived his life.

We are forever grateful.

All donations beyond our goal will still go to Atta's family. Once Farah or Maysoon are in a position to arrange withdrawal from GoFundMe, we will keep you updated on how they decide to distribute the donations.
