Honoring a Wolf's Den Hero

On October 12, 2018 CrossFit Winter Garden lost on of our own. Shawn McKinney walked though our doors with his amazing daughter Eryn. Shawn like any good father wanted to give his daughter every opportunity to excel in her favorite sport (Volleyball). After speaking with Shawn a few minutes he had no problem signing up himself. A few months after joining, Shawn had caught the CrossFit Bug. Being an Army Veteran with multiple tours in war torn countries, Shawn wasn't afraid of a challenge and touted multiple times that, "Man I missed this stuff." But Shawns true motivation was seeing Eryns accomplishments. Shawn would come and get me and tell me to watch Eryn do a lift or a movement, when she would complete it with ease or with great form he would elbow nudge me with that father pride and a grin on his face. Although always basking in Eryns accomplishments, Shawn was no slouch, his improvements in strength, mobility, cardiovascular endurance and weight loss were second to only one during our 90 day body composition challenge taking a second place out of 35 members competing. Shawn was the first to hold the door, help with getting and putting away weights and cheer you on. Shawn wasn't just gym member he was a father, an athlete, a veteran, a gentleman, a friend and our family. He will be truly missed but never ever forgotten.


There will be an event at CrossFit Winter Garden Saturday 10/20 at 10:00AM. It wil be a HERO type WOD in his honor and there will be a gofundme set up as well as donations at the gym that will go to Eryn and the family
