Honor the life of Ray Carrillo

Rene Ray Carrillo
Born Sept 1960
Raised in foster care in Southern California from birth until age 18 when Ray moved to Southern Oregon and began his Wildland firefighting career with Oregon Department of Forestry in 1978. In 1994 Ray accepted a position with Grants Pass Rural in Josephine County where he excelled over the next 18 years serving as both a Wildland and Structural firefighter and ultimately becoming their Fire Chief. Ray moved on to Wolf Creek Fire where he continued his education and became a First Responder in 2014. Ray became the 3rd volunteer in the 24/7 sleeper program that lived at Station #2. Ray became indispensable and was involved in every aspect of the departments fire service programs which included mapping of the fire district water resources, draft site repairs, public education with the school children and operational policy development. Ray's efforts help reduce the response times to fire and EMS calls as well as reducing the fire districts ISO rating from 7 to 6. Ray was a quiet introverted individual who rarely complained and would give the shirt off of his back to those in need. Ray was passionate about
firefighting and sacrificed 40 years of his life in his pursuit. Ray leaves behind hundreds of firefighting and EMS brothers and sisters to carry on his legacy. Ray will always be known to the department and his community as the gentle giant.

Ray fell ill while on duty, and was hospitalized. He passed 9/7/2018 at 935 Pm. The funds collected from this campaign will go directly to the memorial services for this great man which will be managed by the Volunteer Firefighter Association at Wolf Creek RFPD.
