Help For The Burns Family

Honey and Shea Burns are a huge part of the Puna community. If you ever met my mother, you know how loving and strong she is. My brother Shea was diagnosed with spinal meningitis as a baby and he needs care 24/7 because of his daily seizures. Doctors said he would only survive a few weeks, but my mother has selflessly cared for him for the past 32 years. His medications are very expensive and some months my mother pays over $400 out of pocket to keep his seizures under control. She is a 70 year old retired woman and the expense is just too much for her to handle. My family is hurting right now, and on top of everything else, my mother is due to have surgery this October. She simply cannot afford to do this alone and I need to be there to support her and my brother. Unfortunately, I do not have the funds to relocate from Portland, OR and help take care of my family through the difficult months to come.



My mothers medical insurance won't be able to cover all her bills and she will have to go through physical therapy to be able to walk again. She will need help with the mortgage and upkeep on her three acre property. Financially, I cannot afford to uproot my life and help take care of my family. It hurts my heart that I am unable to be there for them during this time of need.

When my mother called me crying my heart sank and it was almost as though I couldn't breathe. I wanted so badly to be there right that moment! She has loved me since the moment she laid eyes on me at the adoption agency, and has been the best mom anyone could ask for. She and my brother have been my rock and have supported me throughout my life's journey, and I will care for them both now as a 26 year old woman. With your help my family can be reunited and I will be able to support them through the next few months to follow. If anyone could donate anything, it would really help me and my family.
