On Tuesday, the brakes of our truck went out and they need to be replaced, which will cost more than $2,500.
This truck is used twice a day to move furniture into new homes of clients transitioning out of homelessness, and to pick up donations from across the St. Louis area. Our clients are receiving donated furniture to help turn their new house into a home.
How can you help?
We have an urgent need to replace the brakes on our truck, so that we can get back on the road. Safety is a top priority for Home Sweet Home. Replacing the brakes will keep our deliveries on the road, and allow our mission to continue.
Every donation helps. On a regular day, we put 80+ miles on the truck. Our truck allows us to safely ensure that we can meet donors, continue to pick up and deliver furniture in a timely manner, and further our mission. Achieving our fundraising goal will help pay for gas and any other maintenance this year.
What is Home Sweet Home?
In order to effectively address homelessness in America and impact a long-term solution to this problem, people transitioning out of homelessness need help with stability. At Home Sweet Home, we believe part of that stability comes from establishing a first home stocked with the necessities for everyday life. Part of maintaining a home is usability and affordability. We can help make taking the first step to stable home life comfortable and accessible.
Every day, our staff and volunteers collect furniture from donors, clean and prepare it for a new home, work with agencies to identify client needs, and help clients select the furnishings for their new homes. As a final step, Home Sweet Home delivers the furniture to the new home and excitedly waiting client. The truck helps keep all the pieces moving so we can serve about 12 families each week.
