Help Kelly Stay Home & Care for Bob

Manager of Everything Natural Kelly Baker has been with the popular and well-known health food store in Northeastern Pennsylvania for 20 years. This is not as long as she's been with her husband of 35 years, Bobby Baker.

Kelly met the love of her life when she was 19 years old. "Right then and there the day we met I knew he was the one. I can't believe that we are heading toward the end of 35 years together. It breaks my heart to see the strong and independent man I knew now needing so much help. He is suffering, and the only way I can help is to be there for him." Three years ago Kelly and her husband Bobby found out that he was suffering from esophageal cancer and that it had spread to his brain. In April of this year, Kelly and her husband were told that he had six months to get his affairs in order. Bobby's recurring brain tumor was inoperable. Over the past year, Kelly and her teenage daughter (along with family help) have been taking care of all his needs. This has been very physically, emotionally, and spiritually hard on Kelly, her daughter, and family.

Bobby served as a US Marine and did a tour of duty in Vietnam. During his time in Vietnam, he was exposed to the defoliant chemical "Agent Orange." While the VA acknowledges a link between exposure to Agent Orange and cancers such as Hodgkin’s disease, multiple myeloma, and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, it says the evidence isn’t there for esophageal cancer and 34 other diseases that Vietnam veterans have sought to have added to the list of recognized, service-related illnesses.

The National Academy of Medicine 2016 report found that evidence for a link between esophageal cancer and Agent Orange is “insufficient.” This is no comfort to Bobby and Kelly who believe the scales were tilted for veteran’s exposed to the defoliant and later develop esophageal cancer.

The time has come for Kelly to be home on full-time bases. Not only to be able to spend what time is left with her husband but also to offer more hands-on care. The fact is that Kelly cannot afford to do this on her own and needs our help.
