On October 31, 2016 The Homeless Angels closed on the purchase of the Burkewood Inn in Lansing.
Thanks to an angel lender, The Homeless Angels who found themselves homeless when the Magnuson Hotel was closed, now have a new home. A home that belongs to the community.
We are purchasing our new hotel, Burkewood Inn, on a 4 year Land Contract which will require the help and support of many, in addition we are in need of some major renovations in order to effectively serve those we bring in.
Phase I - 100% of the income raised will go to start paying off the hotel so no one can ever put us and/or our homeless community in the pickle we found ourselves in at the Magnusson. In addition, we will begin building an expansion off the front lobby for a dining area for our guests to partake in the community meals that are so graciously brought in and served, we will renovate the basement of building 1, which will include the new free store, food pantry and diaper bank. Additionally, we are installing a full service computer lab that will offer job coaching/training, GED assistance, resume writing and computer skills such as word and excel, giving folks the empowerment they so desperately need.
From our humble beginnings in November 2013, walking the streets to find those forgotten or kicked to the curb, giving temporary relief from the frigid Michigan winter temperatures by providing prepared lunches, hot beverages, winter gear and blankets. Over time, growing to be able to place people in temporary housing and helping those that have fallen through the cracks with a warm bed and a hand up in finding housing, jobs and getting back on track to now being in a position to own the hotel outright, being positioned to help on our terms without the red tape associated with shelters is an incredible feeling. One that we want to share with all of you supporting this incredible vision, your support joined with others collectively will make all the difference in the world to those in need.
We encourage our Community Leaders, Churches, Businesses, Organizations and each individual member separately to financially support this God given mission.
Our goal for Phase I = $350,000
OUR GOAL IS TO END HOMELESSNESS in cities across the country using this unique program.
