Homeless Data Sharing Network

We at Texas Homeless Network are driven by one question: How can we better serve people experiencing homelessness?  Texas has eleven homeless crisis response systems, but they rarely talk with one another.  We need to connect Texans experiencing homelessness to necessary services as efficiently as we can. To do this, we need clear communication between these systems.  Hurricane Harvey taught us that this problem only becomes worse when a natural disaster strikes.

To solve this problem, Texas Homeless Network is building a data-sharing network.  This network will allow our state’s homeless crisis response systems to effectively collaborate on ending homelessness.  We are working on a network prototype, which will be ready in early 2019.

After we complete this prototype, we will spend the following year scaling this project up to a complete statewide data-sharing network. This network will allow us to improve access to more homeless services, assist Texans experiencing homelessness as a result of a natural disaster navigate services outside of their original community, understand if available services meet the needs of key homeless populations, and help create data-driven local and state policies for reducing homelessness while saving communities resources in the long-run. 

Our goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of the year toward funding a dedicated project coordinator and maintaining a secure data system.
