Steve McAllister  SARASOTA, FL
A few years ago, I started a campaign to address homelessness by experiencing the process myself and producing a documentary on the issue. Throughout my experience, the Sarasota community was also experiencing the process of creating the Step UP Plan to End Homelessness in 10 Years and hiring expert Dr. Robert Marbut to confirm and expand upon that plan. Simultaneously, communities around the world have sought new and unique ways of addressing the disease of homelessness and proactively curing it person by person. I have begun to compile the footage I've collected and see great opportunity to gather more so that I can more adequately tell the story of how Sarasota ends homelessness as we go through the process, and share it with the rest of the world so that healing can come to the entirety of our human family.

HOME FREE is a documentary web series that explores answers to the crisis of homelessness, and offers greater understanding of the mindsets that refuse rehabilitation and sanctuary. In Sarasota, Florida, we have recently begun implementing 11 of 12 steps recommended to us by Dr. Robert Marbut after local governments collaborated to hire the expert to help us deal with our growing homeless epidemic. The Marbut plan lended great credibility to the Step UP 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness in Sarasota County developed through the Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness, and is helping the community to refine its focus. This series aims to refine that focus further by showcasing the effectiveness of what has been implemented, the opportunities that lay before us, and how this community reaches the 12th step of a "come as you are" shelter, or utilizes its creative resourcefulness to find a better way.

HOME FREE will feature interviews with local citizens and professionals that work with the homeless community, tours of the facilities that serve them, and the stories of those who have been personally affected by homelessness. The documentary will be released in serial form through a variety of video sharing platforms, and will be reformatted to be released as a television series and feature length film.

I feel that the art of documentary filmmaking can teach us about the world around us and inspire us to see new beauty in it. If we can see the beauty in one another, we can see the truth.

We'll be shooting audition interviews today for a piece I'm producing with Alexandra Coe that we will be submitting to the Sarasota Film Festival. We've invited a number of homeless individuals to come out and share their stories as we work our way through the process of opening up more homes in my hometown. Please invest in this project and invite people you know to help us be a part of the solution.

Grass roots! Yes! Common sense more likely to prevail without the "interest group" mentality and "gifting" high priced consultants.
