Two devoted parents of six beautiful children have been turning their lives around in earnest for the past several months. They have been working with a housing assistance program for homeless families at the Road Home since this summer. They have met all program requirements. They were notified of their final approval in the program on Dec. 7th. They went to work contacting landlords at over 50 different properties and within one week they found two landlords who would consider working with their unique sitatuion and the housing assistance program.
The family was so excited to finally end one year of homelessness and when they went to submit their applications for these two homes through the program, they found out that the funding had suddenly been put on pause with no explanation and they were given no idea of when or if the funding would be reinstated.
The Road Home had been housing the family at a hotel during the time that their application was pending final approval. Along with the housing assistance (application fee, security deposit and first month's rent) they were told that they needed to move out of the hotel by Jan. 3rd at 11:00 am unless they could line up a home to move into - on their own without any help from the program.
Instead of succumbing to despair, the family decided that they didn't come this far just to go back to being homeless. They are ready to move into a home and continue their journey toward self-sufficiency with the help of a dedicated team of family, friends and faiht community. If we can raise the money that the program was supposed to provide at this time - to get them into a home - then this family can continue on their journey toward self-sufficiency instead of going back to homelessness.
