Homecoming to South Korea

Donation protected
Hello!

My name is Jenn Grzyvinsky, as some of you know I was born in Choonchun, South Korea as Ahn, Soo Bin and adopted from Seoul, South Korea to Syracuse, New York when I was three months old.

From a young age I knew that I wanted to meet my birth family and to go back to South Korea. Each year I promised myself that I would work towards making it a reality. This year I received an incredible opportunity from Social Welfare Society, the adoption agency on the Korean side.

I was accepted to be a part of their homecoming tour back to South Korea. The trip will last 13 days with the option of staying even longer. While there I will be able to learn more about Korean culture, learn how to make Korean food, and be able to review my adoption file with a social worker.

They are currently trying to get in touch with my birth mother, they have located her and sent out a letter trying to get in touch with her. I hope that while I am there I am able to meet my birth family.

I was born to a young, single mother in the 90s and she chose to put me up for adoption in hopes that I would be able to have a better life than she could provide for me. The one line in my adoption papers that has given me hope since I was a child was her asking for updates and photos of me as I grew up.

As you can imagine a trip to South Korea is very expensive. Fortunately most of my trip is covered but I am still struggling to cover some of the costs including:

-airfare
-transportation/food
-misc. costs such as a Korean sim card and bills from being unable to work while away

Being able to go on this trip would mean the world to me. Discovering more about where I come from, the culture that I am missing, and hopefully meeting my birth parents has been something I have wanted since I was a small child. I never thought that I would be able to actually make this happen and I don't know if I will ever get an opportunity like this again. Any donations received mean so much to me and are so greatly appreciated. Should I reach the goal and have excess funds they will be donated to Koroot, a NGO that assists Korean adoptees in returning to Korea.

I am keeping a blog about my journey in searching for my birth mother and finding my way back to South Korea, if you are interested in reading more about it you can check out my website here.

Thank you so much.
