CD: Homage to Nadia Boulanger

Donation protected
UPDATE: Thank you all so much for your contibutions so far!! We are humbled and grateful to have reached our initial goal of $2500, which covers the cost of recording. We have raised our goal to $3300, which will allow us to get fancy with the artwork and liner notes of the CD. Reaching this goal will also help us with the less glamorous aspects of releasing the album, such as paying licenses, the gofundme platform fees, and other incidental expenses.  Thank you for helping us with this project!!

We are the Wollman-Longendyke Duo, comprised of violist Rose Wollman and pianist Clare Longendyke, and we are thrilled to begin work on our latest CD: Homage to Nadia Boulanger. This album will include four very different works, but they all trace their influence back to the great composition teacher Nadia Boulanger. We have two works by her students, Emile Naoumoff's Viola Sonata, and Astor Piazzola's Le Grand Tango; we have a work by the master herself, Three Pieces for Viola and Piano; and we have a work by a composer descended from Boulanger's teaching lineage, Cinco Danzas de Chambi by Gabriela Lena Frank.

We love the combination of these pieces. There is a huge range of influences, including Peruvian folk music, Jazz, Tango, Debussy, and Shostakovich, and we think it is a beautiful microcosm of how Boulanger chose her students and encouraged them to explore their unique musical voices. The other reason we are so excited about this project is that this will be the first recording of both the Naoumoff and Frank, and a unique adaptation of the Boulanger for Viola (from the original cello). We have been working with tango musicians Daniel Stein (also our esteemed producer) and Julian Peralta on the Piazzola and are excited to bring this insight to our performance We can't wait to share this music with you!

As incentives for you to give us your hard-earned money, we have some rewards at different donation levels. We hope you enjoy!

Our producer, Daniel Stein, has graciously offered his services for no fee, and anything we raise over the funds earmarked above will go toward pressing CDs and buying  Daniel a really nice bottle of bourbon. Here is a breakdown of the projected budget:

Engineer: $75/hour - 12 hours = $1000 to be safe
Venue rental: $1350
Piano Tuner: $150

TOTAL: $2500

Other expenses:
CD pressing
Producer fee / gift
gofundme fees: 2.9% + $0.30/pledge

Thank you so much for your support, we can't do this project without you!
