My Mom. My Rock. My friend. My world.
The most wonderful woman in my life has come face to face with breast cancer once again. In 2008, her world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with the most aggressive form of stage-two breast cancer. She endured a very intensive treatment program along with radiation and countless roadblocks. We were in and out of the hospital constantly dealing with complications such as her two collapsed lungs and congestive heart failure due to the chemo drug Herceptin. Being a single mom meant it was just she and I to tackle this journey together. I attended every surgery, every appointment, every chemo session…right by her side. Although we were later blessed with the news of remission, her health issues continued. In 2012 her heart began going into extreme A-fib. After five cardioversions and an ablation surgery, it led to her needing a pacemaker in 2013. In October 2015, she again got the same news that once turned her life upside down. But this time it’s different. She’s facing it with a brave smile. She has recently endured 3 surgeries within 7 ½ weeks and has just started chemo. She is a single woman working two jobs seven days a week to barely stay afloat. As many people know, any illness can be financially devastating. It’s nearly impossible to manage the massive medical bills. On top of it all, her apartment complex will be raising her rent by $100/month. She needs to be able to rest and recuperate but is financially unable to do so. Life is short, and it breaks my heart watching her fight this battle and struggle too. I’m asking for you to please help ease the burdens of the woman who taught me the true meaning of strength, beauty, and faith. Thank you and God Bless! :)
