Holiday Bags For The Homeless

Donation protected
My name is Jackelyn Gonzalez. I started a tradition with my boyfriend 3 years ago during the holidays. We weren't wealthy and we still aren't, but we consider ourselves to be in a good place. We have a place to live, we are employed and we are surrounded with people who love and support us. Because of what we have, we want to give back to those that are in need.

Since we started the holiday tradition we have increased the number of bags we put together every year. The amount we personally donate is based on the amount of money we gross. Last year we ended up creating a total of 100 bags with the cost per bag being around $10. We personally go to Skid Row to hand these out. For those unfamiliar with Skid Row it is a 50 block area (less than half a square mile) with currently 8,000-11,000 homeless (according to the LA Chamber Website).

This year we would like to increase the number of bags by at least 7 times. Our hope is to raise enough money to include more items and also have a food truck with pots of soup and cornbread. We would try and get a city permit to close a portion of Skid Row and have the homeless help us clean some of the streets in exchange for a meal and bag. Because of the amount of homelessness in this area, the streets are full of trash.

The picture above is a photo of one of the many bags my family and I created last year. It contained food, hygiene products, liquids, mittens, beanie, socks, towel, doggy treat (for those with pets or that see a stray and want to give back to them) and more.

My goal is to complete this project by December 20, 2016 to ensure that the homeless get an early Santa gift. It would mean the world to me if you would donate at least the minimum amount that this site allows you to. If you don't want to, please at least make one homebag yourself and give it a homeless you see.

I've already raised $3,000 outside of GoFundMe. Thank you in advance for all of your donations. If you're able to, please provide your e-mail address so that I may send you photos of this year's Holiday Bags For The Homeless.
