Jillian Hohensee  SAINT CHARLES, MO
The Hohensee family is overjoyed to be welcoming child number four in January. We are all eager to meet baby Barrett. We are also all praying that he is strong. At the 20 week ultrasound we were devastated to find out he has a congenital heart defect called hypo plastic left heart syndrome. His left ventricle is severely underdeveloped and once he is born will not be able to pump blood out of his heart to his body. He will require at least three open heart surgeries. The first will take place within his first week of life when his heart is roughly the size of a walnut. He will be in the ICU  for at least a month. We just pray everyday that he is a fighter and makes it home to his eagerly awaiting family. We appreciate everyone's prayers and support.

Baby Barrett is doing well. He is still on oxygen every night, but is growing well and is such a strong boy. His surgeon says that it is time for his second open heart surgery. He will go in on the 29th of May. This surgery is not as risky as the first. He will still go on bypass, but they will not have to stop his heart like last time. It is just as frightening for us though. It is still open heart surgery on our four month old little blessing. Please keep us in your prayers. Thank you.

Barrett had a rough night last night. His surgery went well, but his oxygen saturation is only better when he is awake. It is still very low when he is sleeping. The cardiologist is going to let us go home today, but we will have to monitor his pulse ox and have him on oxygen whenever he is asleep. We were just checking 3-4 times a day at home so this will be a big change. It looks like his next open heart surgery will be sooner rather than later.

Barrett has been struggling daily with low oxygen saturation. He has needed oxygen three or four times a week for the last two weeks. We want to buy a better pluse oximeter. The one we are renting is not as accurate as we would like and we will have to monitor his saturations at least until he is three, possibly longer. He is going in to the hospital tomorrow morning for a cardiac catheterization. He will be put under anesthesia and a catheter will go in to his leg up to his heart. They will look for any areas which may not be allowing enough blood flow and widen them. His cardiologist and surgeon will discuss the timing of his next open heart surgery next week. Please pray for his surgery to go well tomorrow.
