Historical Tornado Film

Donation protected
Since 2009, I have spent thousands of dollars, hours and miles shooting this film. I work full-time to pay for all production equipment, vehicles, fees, legal services and everything else needed to cover this story. Which story? The long ago tale of the historical tornado outbreak of 1973. As a child, I would chase dust devils on my bicycle across the Kansas plains and looked forward to the day I would see a tornado. It happened at last and I filmed it too! Unfortunately, it turned out to be the first of over a dozen twisters that would terrorize north-central Kansas for the rest of the night. Town after town was heavily damaged as nearly every funnel dropped down in populated areas. Millions of dollars in damage, lives lost and a terrible flood after it all... And not during our spring storm season, but in September.
The year was also full of big social movements and political turmoil. The war in Vietnam was turning into a loss for everyone, the Equal Rights Amendment was hot and President Nixon was about to drown the nation with Watergate. The legacy of all things from 1973 are still with us today, as are the scars left by the bizarre storms of that September.
I have worked in print journalism, television broadcast news and won multiple awards in still photography.  My old-school news reporting combined with new-school digital media have made it possible for me to finally tell the story of the storms of 1973... But I have invested all I am able to bring it all together, and I'll need to match what I've spent to finish the film this year. Editing gear, consultant fees, legal fees, music rights, and a bit more footage still needs to be paid for to get this unique tornado film to the people. Dozens of folks have donated their time and stories for us all to hear as well as films and photos of the actual tornadoes and damage on the day.
I tell you, this will be an amazing documentation of not only the disaster and human cost of such a thing, but of the time in which these events came to pass. You can help by getting me through the post-production journey and sending the final trailer to the right people to distribute the final film.
Hop in the chase vehicle with me and I'll show the world this one-of-a-kind tale of torment and triumph!
