The Democratic Party of Hawai'i State Convention is being held at the Hilton Waikoloa, on Hawai'i Island, May 26th and 27th, which will pose some financial and logistical challenges in getting as many neighbor-island, progressive delegates, as possible, to the convention. And, it’s already an open secret that the old boy and corporate interests will be gunning for our progressive agenda and our progressive candidates.  But Hawaii's progressives are up to the challenge!
To mitigate this challenge, a small group of Hawaii Island Progressives have taken the initiative and personal expense to rent a presidential suite in the centrally located Palace Tower at the Hilton Waikoloa, to serve as a hospitality suite and base of operations for Hawaii’s progressive delegates to the convention. We’re calling it the Hawai'i Island Progressive Suite or HIP Suite, and its doors will be open to Hawai'i’s progressive delegates to meet and strategize, and for rest and refreshment, anytime between Friday afternoon and Sunday-noon, on Convention Weekend. And on Saturday Evening, we’ll be hosting a reception, complete with live entertainment, a full, tended bar, and delicious, organic, locally sourced pupus. Also the HIP Suite is a YUGE 3200 square feet, which means we can accommodate a fair number of progressive delegates who aren’t able to secure other lodging near the convention. The H.I.P. Suite will be available for meetings and will have a high capacity printer, on hand, for printing resolutions, cheat sheets, etc., which will make it an effective organizing tool for Hawaii’s progressives at the convention.
But, it costs money. And most of us are not rich. Which is why we are appealing to you, Hawaii’s progressive delegates, for whatever donation you can spare($27?), so that we can make the HIP Suite the MOST hospitable hospitality suite possible, and help us win Convention Weekend!
The suite costs $2400 for both Friday and Saturday nights, and we estimate a cost of $4000 dollars to stock it with coffee and snacks, open bar, including kegs of local craft beer, and pupus for the Saturday Night Reception. Every expense will be itemized, and any funds raised in excess of expenses, will be donated to a Big Island based charity dedicated to helping Puna residents displaced by Pele, to be chosen by vote.
