Many of you probably remember the mangy pit bull who was my foster that was adopted by a wonderful family on the east coast. He was at BARC set to be euthanized and y’all know my weakness for the mangies so without a plan in place for him I agreed to take him to save his life and I don’t regret it one bit. A lot of you enjoyed watching him and Joey's bromance blossom while at my home, him playing with my foster puppies and especially jumping into the pool without a care in the world! He was given a chance at the life he always deserved when the lab Rescue who was taking Joey couldn’t help but love Hippo too after seeing their bromance and networked him like crazy until his adopters were found. As you can see from the photos Hippo has an amazing mom and dad and kids of his own and is loved dearly. This last week he got sick and was taken to his vet Friday where it was recommended that he go to the ER Hospital for the weekend to be monitored and then taken to the specialist Tuesday. Hippo is a VERY sick dog right now, the estimate is in the pictures. Vetting is a lot more expensive in the NE than it is here and his family can not afford the $5000 they were quoted as many of us could not but they do not want to see their beloved Hippo die. The ER Hospital won’t even admit him until they have secured the $2100 deposit. They do not know I am doing this for them but I want to show his family that those of us here in Houston can and will rally around our dogs that people take a chance on. Will you please help me help them give our beloved Hippo a fighting chance? Thank you in advance no amount is too small and I apologize for the novel.

Final update: Hippo has been released from the hospital and appears to be doing well. There is still some concerns and we don't have a definite diagnosis but the treatment plan for now is to finish the medication he has been sent home on and follow up when done or return to the hospital if he were to get worse. If that were to happen a biopsy would need to be done to rule out lymphoma. I cannot thank you all enough for the kindness and generosity you showed to Hippo and his family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hippo update.
Sadly Hippo had to be rushed to an emergency hospital again today. He was not eating or drinking and his stomach was so swollen and red. They took him to a different hospital. This hospital did not have anyone to do an ultrasound because of the holiday so they agreed to do a CAT scan for the same price of the ultrasound as a favor to this family who just wants answers. They will also do blood work again and a urinalysis.
Please keep our sweet Hippo, or as they also call him, Mr. Potamus, in your thoughts today and send out some good vibes for him. Hoping for some solid answers today.
Again, thank you so much for all your support. ❤️

UPDATE FROM HIPPO's dad. I forgot to mention last night his temp was 105+ so it's come down.

********Spoke with a Dr, he's responding well to fluids, meds and antibiotics. Temp is down to 101.8, he ate a small meal & kept it down. Imaging shows some respiratory inflammation, they want to do an abdominal ultrasound, not sure when. If he continues trending this way, they'll try to switch him to oral meds and as long as he's still responsive to those, he MIGHT be able to come home either very late tonight or tomorrow morning, then follow up with internal medicine on Tuesday.
They're steering away from fungal infection, no signs of internal bleeding, leaning more towards a bacterial infection. The Dr we spoke to around 2am mentioned there might be a rock in his stomach, but it's hard to tell exactly from the x-ray, hence wanting the ultrasound. If there is, I'm hoping it's small enough to pass without needing surgery.

Thank you all for sharing and donating. I'll post updates as they come in. Xo
