Hiking For Health In Nepal

Donation protected
We're on a giant adventure with a desire to help others. First let us introduce ourselves, our names are Brooke, Melissa & Ryan. Late last year we took a chance and decided to travel the world! (Yes, we're those crazy people you hear about that quit their jobs and sold their house to do it.) A benefit of traveling the world is that we get to see exciting places, experience amazing cultures and meet great people. More importantly though, we have the chance to make an impact on the world and help those in need.

We found just the place where we can make a big impact and help those who truly need it. Our mission is to continue the wonderful work that Hike For Help started last year by assisting them in building a small health clinic in the remote village of Hewa, Nepal. Hike For Help  is a charity committed to completing small, focused projects with high impact, implemented by the local Sherpa community. In addition to supporting Hike For Help's work we'll also be hiking to Everest Basecamp, which has been a life long goal for us all.

A little background on the project thus far...Hike For Help  held an initial trip during the fall of last year. This trip established a medical camp in the remote village of Hewa, Nepal. They had 2 doctors, 2 nurses and four medical assistants, and a large amount of medicine. During this initial trip, 237 patients were treated, many receiving life saving medications and care they desperately needed. To give you some reference the nearest hospital is two days walking distance from the village. In the past, many villagers have died on the way to the Phaplu Hospital. This was the first time ever a temporary medical camp was set up in this village, so the villagers were very excited and appreciative. Following this trip the people of the Hewa village requested Hike For Help's  support in building a small health clinic in their village.

What we'll be doing...We'll be helping to fulfill the request of the villagers. Our trip like all Hike For Help  trips will be a combination of hiking in Nepal and volunteering to help with their projects. Our trip will be taking the first step in building the small health clinic requested by the villagers. We'll be laying the ground work for this clinic, it is Hike For Help's goal to have the clinic completed by the end of 2016.

So what exactly are we raising funds for? The purpose of this campaign is to fund the cost of our trip. This covers lodging, meals and other items related to our trip. For a more detailed review of the cost of the trip you can look here. While we'll be paying for our own transportation to and from Nepal our hope its to fund a minimum of half the cost of the trip per a person. The trip in total is $3,600 per a person, our hope is to raise at least $6,000 (that's roughly half the cost of the trip for the three of us and fees associate with a gofundme campaign).

What happens if we raise more than our goal of $6,000? If we raise more than $6,000 we'll apply the additional funds to the remaining cost of our trip. Everything we raise over the total cost of our trip will be donated to Hike For Help and it will be used to build the clinic.

A little information on timing...Our trip begins on February 18th and ends on March 7th. The more money we raise the greater the chance that we'll get to donate to Hike For Help. To do this we need time, so we'll be running this fundraiser until the end of our trip, March 7th.

Why donations are so important? Your donations are incredibly important to us. It will help us be able to afford to do the trip. In doing so we can help to start the building of the health clinic which in turn helps improve the standard of life in Hewa. We'll be providing a much needed medical facility for the villagers. Our hike in Nepal will also have the added affect of providing income for the porters and staff assisting in our hike and in a small way have a positive economy impact.

We really couldn't thank you enough.. regardless of how much you donate or if you just share our campaign with others we couldn't thank you enough. We appreciate any help or well wishes we receive!

Curious about us? Understandable, after all we are asking you to donate your hard earned money to help us. The least we can do is tell you more about who we are. The easiest way for you to get a feel for who we are and what we've been up to is to take a look at our trip blog . After all it documents everything we've been doing for the past five months! We'll also be updating the blog through out our hike when possible. If we run into connectivity issues in Nepal which is likely to happen then it will be updated shortly after our hike.

Have a question? If you have a question or want to ask us about something please reach out to us. You can choose to "Contact The Organizer" by clicking on the small envelope next to Melissa Van Dover on this page. You'll find it just under the "Donate Now Button".

That's all from us for now. We'll make sure to update this campaign page as we go with our fundraising progress and trip activities. Thank you so much for all your support, it means the world to us!

Happy Travels,

Brooke, Melissa & Ryan
