High Fives for Henry's Heart

Donation protected
Hello!

Our best friends Nolan and Ashlee Houlihan will be welcoming their first son (Henry!) early this September! Henry was diagnosed with a rare heart condition and will need extra medical attention during Ashlee's pregnancy and also once he is born. Ashlee and Nolan have weekly ultrasounds and cardiologist appointments for Henry and are quickly becoming overwhelmed by the cost of medical attention needed for his case.  We are here to extend an invitation to family, friends, and strangers to help our friends out financially.

We have set a goal of raising 400 "High Fives" to begin.  A "High Five" is simply a $5 donation. We know some of you are willing and able to bring so many more than one "High Five" to the table though. Let's shower the Houlihans in some "High Fives" people!

I have had Ashlee and Nolan explain more about Henry's condition in detail and a little bit about themselves. We are so lucky to call them friends and we need your assistance to help bare just even a little bit of the financial load that has already come and is coming their way.

"I'm  Ashlee Houlihan and I am 24 years old. My husband is Nolan Houlihan and we are expecting our first child who will be induced on September 5, 2018. We currently live in Norfolk, Virginia and have been married for just under two years. I currently work for a credit union and my husband is a commercial fisherman in Virginia Beach. In January 2018 we found out that God had blessed us with a baby. This was at first concerning for us as my husband has many congenital heart defects, single atrium, single ventricle, and transposition of the great vessels, just to name a few. We were assured that the chances of our baby having a heart condition were slim to none as Nolan’s were just one in a million. On March 20, 2018 we found out that we were welcoming a baby boy into our lives and we were so delighted. Soon after the gender was revealed, the doctor came into the ultrasound room and had a look on his face that I’ll never forget. He gave us the devastating news that our baby did indeed have a heart defect. Henry (the name we chose for him) has Truncus Arteriosus or Common Atrial Trunk. Truncus Arteriosus is a rare type of heart disease that is present at birth (congenital) and is defined as having a single main blood vessel, rather than the normal necessary two that are used for carrying blood away from the heart. Instead of having a separate pulmonary artery to carry blood to the lungs and aorta which then carries blood to the rest of the body; a baby with Truncus Arteriosus has just one blood vessel leaving the heart which then branches into other blood vessels. Blood from both ventricles of the heart is mixed, resulting in a situation in which some oxygen-rich blood travels needlessly back to the lungs and some oxygen-poor blood travels to the rest of the body. Henry will undergo open heart surgery to patch and repair the heart at 3-4 weeks after birth at UVA in Charlottesville Virginia."
