My wife is a patient in the hospital “Neurological ICU”. Her name is April. As of today she has been in the hospital for OVER 3 full weeks.
Three weeks ago she came down with what seemed like a cold that got worse over the course of a few days. When I tried to get her out of bed one morning to go to the doctor she did not respond. Her body seemed OK – she was breathing and her pulse was OK, etc… - but she could barely open her eyes and she didn’t know who I was or who SHE was or anything else I was asking her about. She didn’t respond to anything I asked of her… My only thought was I – she – needed help. I immediately prayed for His help for both of us and rushed her to the closest emergency room.
ANY kind of hospitalization is expensive. But nearly 3 weeks straight (and counting) in the Critical Care portion of a modern hospital, “Neuro ICU”, is a life-altering sum of money. Even if we had insurance – and we don’t – it would be prohibitively expensive. I never asked – and no one SHOULD ever ask – “how much is it going to cost to save my loved one’s life.” The only concern at the time was to get the best care possible under a given set of circumstances. Especially in an emergency where one’s life is in the balance it’s nearly impossible to contemplate the monetary cost.
Any funds raised here will be used to defray already incurred or continuing medical expenses related to April’s hospitalization and recovery from Bacterial Meningitis and the resulting “complication” of cerebral sinus venous thrombosis (blood-clot in a vein in the brain) & cerebral ischemia (bleeding in the brain). Prayer is powerful, we don’t doubt that, but it needs men & women to be open to do His will in caring for our earthly bodies and that care costs earthly funds!
We don’t undertake anything like this without seeking advice from a trusted friend…OUR HEAVENLY FATHER! The decision to open up our lives and tell about April’s illness on a website was made after much prayer and consideration.
We are already immeasurably thankful to all who have prayed so hard for so long and who continue to pray and offer support until April is 100% healed. We trust the “divine physician” to guide the thoughts and hands of April’s earthly physicians and know that all those “prayer warriors” who have joined in April’s cause will be as grateful to God as we will be to Him…and them!
