Halifax Robotics Team To CA, USA

Donation protected

A team of 16 high school teenagers (in grades 10 to 12) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada has been working hard since December at the non-profit Halifax Robotics to built a international-class underwater robot - Remotely Operated Vehicle (or ROV) to compete in the MATE international underwater robotics competition

Here is this year’s underwater robot with 6 thrusters, 6 IP cameras and 4 articulators, as well as an on-board micro-controller running Windows 10 IoT Core controlled by an on-shore Windows 10 laptop with an Xbox controller.   It has an entirely 3D printed frame with interchangeable parts allow the entire frame to be replaced in less than an hour.  You can find out more about the project here - https://www.hackster.io/nova-underwater-technologies-2017/nova-underwater-technologies-teenager-team-underwater-rov-19c6c5

While their hard work has led to a recent win at the regional level, they now need to raise the funds to update the robot and get the team to the international competition final in California, USA competing against 30 teams from 16 countries.

Building and presenting a championship robot ready for the international level that runs under water performing complex tasks, takes skills in mechanics, engineering, marine technologies, software, design, business & marketing.  It also takes funding support from community and industry partners to help update the robot and then there's getting the team to the competition event in the US. It will cost up to $25,000 to send the team to the international finals, so we are looking for local and industry backers to support the team of students in this amazing adventure. A donation from you or your company would help the team in continuing to gain valuable skills and experience for the future, not available through regular school classes.

Some members of our team will be graduating from high school at the end of the year, and be able to use the skills developed over the past 3 years in their future studies and careers.  These kinds of experiences grow minds and change lives, as well as giving students the opportunity to travel to meet like-minded students from other countries.  They also create leadership skills and stories which can be used to apply for scholarships and pass on skills to others.

Timing is key here since the team needs book plane tickets in the next two weeks to ensure availability and reasonable prices.

Thank you for your support!
