Heritage Trailer Park

This GoFundMe page is intended to financially assist the residents of Heritage Trailer Park in Summerside PEI. We hope to offset a portion of their financial burden through this funding campaign. This is only one of many crusades, we as a community, are implementing to assist the residents of Heritage Trailer Park.
Here is their story;
On May  07, 2018, the residents of Heritage Trailer Park were stunned when they all received eviction notices. The landlord and owner of the property sent each resident a letter of eviction which stated they have six months to vacate the premises. This short time frame has created a lot of anxiety and stress for homeowners within the park.
In the hope of garnering more time, the park residents applied for an extension through IRAC. In other provinces, some laws protect owners of trailer/mobile home. Legislation in other provinces requires park owners to give manufactured homeowners at least two years notice of eviction. Unfortunately, here on PEI, no such law currently exist.
Many residents continue to worry about the significant costs associated with moving their home as many of them subside on a marginal income. The average moving price of a mini-home is between $5000-$7000. Additionally, some houses are too old to be moved to other trailer parks, and some cannot be moved at all. This leaves few options for the residents. They have a choice of, surrendering their home to the bank, selling at a loss, purchasing land outside the city, or attempt to find an affordable housing option.
The eviction notice has created many unique situations for homeowners. For instance, some residents had little choice but to dip into their retirement funds, cash in life insurance policies, postpone significant personal engagements or make the difficult decision of starting over. One unfortunate resident recently purchased a home in Heritage Park during January of 2018. Months later the resident was delivered a devastating eviction notice. The owner must now find the funds required for the homes relocation.
Many of the parks residents are also dealing with health issues. The additional stresses, from the eviction, is not having a positive effect on their overall wellbeing. One resident stated,” This is the hardest thing I have ever been through, and I have beat cancer twice, it feels like we have been backed into a corner with no options. It is heartbreaking.”
Every donation will help the residents of Heritage Trailer Park. Please be kind enough to share, as we are trying to help the residents of Heritage Trailer Park move forward during this challenging time. All proceeds raised will be divided equally divided amongst the 21 owners.
