Hennas for a Home

My name is Savannah Lyn Delos Santos. I am the daughter of Elena R. Delos Santos and sister of Christian Delos Santos. This is our story.

We would like to start off by saying thank you so much for taking the time to click on this link and even going as far as taking the time to read our story. We appreciate you.

"Super Typhoon Yutu rampaged through the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands on Thursday, October 25th, leaving behind storm damage that residents are calling the worst they have ever experienced." (Washington Post)

Seven days days later, Thursday, November 1st, only one week out from Typhoon Yutu at approximately 11:45am (Saipan time), a fire broke out in the heart of Garapan, Saipan.

The fire ensued for almost 11 hours as firefighters consistently attempted to put the fire out utilizing any "ocean water, emergency backup water, and private storage water through their hoses to douse the flames – any supply they could scrounge in the midst of the island’s post-typhoon water shortage." (Pacific News Center) Both the island power and water utilities were down after the typhoon resulting in water being exhausted multiple times.

Over 30 residents were left homeless...including my family. Both my mother's home and my brother's home were lost in the fire. We lost everything.

This is me asking you for your help. I do not believe in asking others for any money without providing something in return in whatever way I can. I understand there are others who do not have homes as well due to Typhoon Yutu. We are in the same situation, but just as a result of different circumstances.

I am creating this project to raise money for both my brother as well as my mother. This is an idea that slowly all came together over time.

This is the "Hennas for a Home" Project.

Originally, when I started my current henna tattoo small business “KipItSavvy” with my business partner, we had discussed the idea of using a portion of our profit to donate it to a cause, specifically Next Step Shelter, a transitioning shelter for the homeless folks out in downtown Honolulu. Another contribution to this idea involved a book I had read called "What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20" discussing various ways to maximize your earnings when you start from practically nothing.

I love art and I am a firm believer that art should be shared...which brings me to my objective for this GoFundMe page.

My service will be to share my talent and art with others by doing henna tattoos for anyone and everyone living in Honolulu, Hawai'i. I am a traveling henna artist; however, I do not have a car and normally work by providing service where I go to school, Chaminade University of Honolulu.

Pieces can be any design of your choice. I can do pieces that range from a hand-size to half the forearm.

Henna tattoos normally range from $30-$50 for pieces of that size; however, I do not have a specific request amount. My only request is that you donate whatever amount you are able to. I have no expectations. I am incredibly grateful for any amount even if it is a $1.

I have broken it down financially and made it a goal to raise at least $4,000. I took into consideration both my brother and my mother's financial situations as well as rent for 4-5 months as it will take that long for power to be fully restored to the island.

Many including my family are at a pause for earning income due to the situation of the island.

I understand many that want to help might not be on the island of Oahu. I will be happy to provide any other form of art that you would like and I will be happy to mail it to you as well.

Thank you so much for your time. We appreciate you for simply reading what we have to say. We are grateful for your time and for your donations and whatever else help you might be willing to provide. Thank you to all of those who have reached out and continue to reach out. It is so appreciated. Again, thank you.
