My name is Ed Correa. Never in a million years would I have thought I would be creating a GoFundMe. For almost 40 years I have been friend's with Louis "Shadow" Ianni. He is truly my best friend and brother! I am absolutely heartbroken that Lou has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis , ALS or Lou Gehrigs disease. Everyone that's ever met Louis knows he is a great guy. Loving and generous he is always there for family and friends. Louis is the guy who treats a stranger the same way he treats a life long friend, with respect and love!
Louis is a devoted father, brother, son and friend. Life has not been easy for Louis. Losing his father at a very young age, he and his sister Diana were raised by their mother Fran. His loving Mom, against all odds, provided a loving home while teaching a young boy how to become a man. And in return Louis became a man that all who know him love and admire. A man of two sons, Louis Jr. a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Metuchen Department of Public Works and loving husband to Katie and David a HVAC technician for Arctic Air Conditioning who also served in the United States Marine Corps from 2010 to 2014 and is currently engaged to Kristina O'Brien with an Oct 2019 wedding planned. Two young men who have grown up to be great young men in their father's image.
ALS is a disease of the nervous system., It weakens the muscles and affects the nerve cells of the brain and spinal cord. As it progresses motor neurons deteriorate and then die. The brain loses the ability to initiate and control movement often resulting in an inability to eat, speak, walk, move and even breathe. There is NO cure for ALS and limited treatments. Eventually leading to total paralysis and then death. Life expectancy is 2-5 years and 10% of patients live up to 10 years.
Lou's life has now changed, the extreme weight loss, muscle weakness, difficulty speaking and swallowing are already present. However, his wonderful smile has not changed.
That is the reason for this fundraiser, medical costs are and will continue to rise. This is an effort to help Louis and his family adjust to his new life and the challenges that are ahead. Challenges which are many and are daunting.
I ask for your donation for the Ianni Family to use as they need. Currently modifications are being made to Louis home to help him not only adjust to his new life but to allow him to stay in the home he worked so hard for as long as he can.
