Steel City's Cats Need Your Help!

Donation protected
Steel City Alley Cats Coalition needs your help to open a cat rescue facility in Pueblo, Colorado. Since April 2013, our volunteer-run nonprofit has successfully offered numerous free and low-cost programs for cats and dogs in the Pueblo community; operating without a facility, we have always worked with a network of like-minded rescues and clinics to rehabilitate and rehome tame animals.

In September of this year, our largest rescue partner, Every Creature Counts, announced that they would be closing down, and we knew now was the time to take the next step toward fulfilling our mission to decrease the number of cats and dogs left homeless in Colorado shelters -- We knew it was time to open the cat rescue we'd always talked about!

This year alone, we have spayed/neutered and vaccinated over 500 cats/kittens, both companion and feral, through various low-cost clinics in eastern Colorado. Of those cats, all adoptable cats were transferred to our no-kill rescue partners to be placed in loving homes, while ferals were ear-tipped and released back into their colonies. We have also offered the following programs:

- A free Community Pet Food Pantry for Pueblo's low-income pet owners and an SRDA program for the elderly to supply Meals on Wheels recipients with food for their pets

- Emergency medical care for stray and feral cats

- Transport for free spay/neuter of companion cats

- Assistance with Trap-Neuter-Return and cat food for feral colony managers

- A New Leash on Life - Bail Bonds for Pueblo's Pets, which raises money to cover the charges of releasing owned animals back to the owners from Pueblo Animal Services

- "Yes We Can" aluminum can drive to encourage people to recycle their cans, with proceeds donated to our cause by Dionisio Metal & Iron

- Worked with PawsCo's mobile vet clinic to offer two free spay/neuter and vaccination events for over 200 owned dogs in 2017

- Disaster relief and free food for pet owners during the 2016 Beulah Fires and during Hurricane Harvey

We are also proud to be a Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network Partner.

With your generous support, we can continue to offer these programs and more to the people and pets of eastern Colorado. Our most important addition would be our new cat adoption program operating out of our rescue facility.*

We have already found and signed the lease on a location in the Mesa area of Pueblo, which has everything we need to get started and the potential for expansion as we grow. (No operations will be conducted at this location until our opening date of Valentine's Day, 2018. Steel City Alley Cats Coalition will remain a 100% volunteer-run organization, with all funds going directly toward the animals in our care and the animals we assist. We will not be accepting any animals or have a foster program until our PACFA Inspection has been completed and our rescue permit has been issued through The Colorado Department of Agriculture.)

(Facility entrance)

(Main room)

(Healthy, adoptable animal room -- to the left of main room)

(Exercise/meet and greet room)

(Welping room for mothers with babies and orphaned kittens)

To get started, we need all the help we can get -- no donation is too small, and ALL donations, both monetary and in-kind, are tax-deductible! Please consider donating what you can, and if you can't donate, please share our fundraiser to spread the word!

Your monetary donations are much needed; some of our biggest recurring expenses will be:

- Fire inspection and fire extinguishers

We want to thank ECC for all the wonderful work they have done for not only Colorado dogs and cats but also all the dogs and cats from other states, who found their second chances and happy endings at ECC from 1992 to 2017.
