Help save Michael's vision

We received an urgent update this week about a case particularly close to our heart in our Boaco, Nicaragua clinic, Clinica Verde. Michael, a 4-year old patient is in dire need of surgery, and it is more complex than we had initially hoped.
Our Development Director, Rebecca met Michael and his parents personally the first day of her visit at the clinic. Michael, his mom and his dad walked for 4 hours to get there that day.
Clinica Verde staff has found surgery help for Michael with the help of the Ophthalmology Nicaragua Foundation and FONIPRECE / Clínica Ojo Sano. Although his case is complicated, there is a solution and we are working quickly to make this surgery happen for him.
Initially the surgery was going to cost $500. We were very grateful to raise the funds through our community within just a few hours. Michael's surgery was scheduled for August 21st. However, during his pre-operative assessments, a senior optomistrist uncovered a complication that increases the time and complexity of the surgery - as well as the urgency. The pressure in his eyes are very high, and we must perform this very quickly as well as perform a vitrectomy in both eyes.
Today he was seen by our partner's most experienced surgeon, and by one Glaucomatologist, and surgery is possible this Wednesday, August 23rd at 7am if we can raise the funds. I am attaching a picture of little Michael right before being examined today.
We are thinking heavily about the future of little Mycol living in the community with the condition that he has currently. Michael's family lives in extreme poverty. If we don't get him this surgery, he will be blind. To think about the future that little Michael can have as a blind person is not very optimistic. Very few efforts exist in Nicaragua that can help a blind person to develop his capabilities. Most blind peeople end on the streets begging. That could be Michael's future.
Help us raise these funds for Michael, and help to provide him the gift so many of us take for granted - the ability to see.
