Help rebuild Ashna Orphanage Nepal

“We have nothing. But we have each other"

(Ashna family members at a happier time)

On Saturday, April 25, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake devastated the country of Nepal, killing over 7000 and leaving hundreds of thousands hurt, in grief and homeless.

Nepal holds a special place in our hearts, and one family in particular, who have changed our lives. Beth, Shawn and I spent the summer of 2012 living with nineteen brothers and sisters at Ashna Rehabilitation Home, 45 minutes out of Kathmandu. As volunteers, we traveled to Nepal to lend a helping hand, but we received so much more than we could give. We were shown love, compassion, courage and resilience. We learned the true value of family. Our family at Ashna is made up of orphaned and abandoned children from all over the country, who now live together and are cared for by Bhagwati and Somnath Ghimire. These children have been through a lifetime of hardship and struggle already.

Thankfully, our family survived the disaster but their home did not.  The earthquake collapsed their walls and made their house unstable to live in. They are sleeping outside under tarps with not enough food to feed everyone. The Ashna family has worked hard to provide a safe, secure and loving home for their children but do not have the means to support themselves or rebuild during this horrendous time.

We know that there are so many families in need of assistance at this time- we ask that you please consider helping our family too. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help the Ashna Orphanage with immediate relief for food, water and medication as well as to contribute to the rebuilding of their home.

All donations will be transferred directly to Somnath Ghimire, who has been a father to these children since 2006. We hope that with your help, we can show them that they are incredibly loved and ensure that they can continue to grow and learn as a family.

 Our utmost gratitude,

Michelle (Canada), Shawn (USA), and Beth (England)
