Allow me to introduce you to my insanely funny, adorable 10 year old cousin, Nicole. Nicole, who is always laughing and smiling, loves joking around and being silly, reading books about animals, and like every other child in the world, she can’t get enough of the movie Frozen.
However, Nicole is not like every other child. Unlike most children, she has been through more in her 10 years of life than anyone should ever have to experience. Nicole was born with Down Syndrome, and as a baby had emergency open heart surgery. Since then, she has had two major surgeries on her legs to help her walk, leaving both legs in uncomfortable full leg casts . But she fought through all of this!
Now Nicole faces her biggest hurdle yet. It is heartbreaking to say that a little over a month ago, Nicole was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia. She has been in A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children for a little over a month receiving high doses of chemotherapy. There have been some complications along the way, but she is fighting it. We will find out next week how much longer she’ll need to stay in the hospital, but when she leaves, she will have to continue to receive chemotherapy three times a week for two years.
Between the costly hospital and medical bills, and all of her upcoming trips to Delaware to recieve her chemo treatments during the week, finances are going to become very difficult. I am hoping you can help Nicole and her family with these expenses during this really challenging time.
