My Mom needs much help
I’m starting a Go Fund Me page and reaching out to everyone to help my Mother ..Carol Walters who is disabled with severe fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. She also has a heart problem and as well has limited use of her right arm which she needs surgery to repair her rotator cuff.
She also has very bad knees and needs that replaced as well and can't walk that well here and there but like everything insurance will not cover all of it Most days she has to use a cane to walk and sometime stays in bed with ice packs. She takes many several medications everyday and has been getting SSD for many years.
She has not been able to pay for her treatments for her diseases because her insurance will not cover all of it. She can’t afford to pay for it .
She needs a few operations and can not get them due to she can’t afford the Co Pay since insurance will not cover all of it.
I am the only one that takes care of her and do most all things to help her each and everyday. Some of the most basic things she cannot do at all anymore. There is no family or relatives to help unfortunately. There never was really. My grandparents, her mother and father passed many years ago. She also took care of each of them as well. Her father lived with us until he passed from parkinson’s disease.
She took care of me and my half sister for many years on her own since very early 70s till late 80s. It was tough and she worked 3 jobs at times. We lived at my grand mothers house for a while then moved to Florida for a few yrs then back to NJ and she met and married again.
In 2004 I became ill and was 12 hours away from dying and some who know what would have happened to me. My appendix and colon burst at the same time. I went to hospital and they did test but didn’t tell me what was really going on to not shock me but my mom knew. I was put in a induced coma for 10 days to stabilize me before they could operate and as well after the operation in a coma again for like 2 days in ICU both times and scary part was I came out of the coma when I was not supposed to and my lung collapsed at the same time. I had to wear a bag until the 2nd surgery.
After my 2nd surgery 6 months later I had complications and almost died if it were not for my mom smelling something odd and telling the nurses something was wrong. I developed an infection and had to rush into surgery again and to heal from the inside out. Same time my stepfather got lung cancer/copd and almost died as well because he couldn’t breathe and we were in hospital same time on same floor.
She was a wreck and had to take care both of us once I came home and him… I had to heal from inside out and had a open wound. She had to change my dressings everyday and clean it out and take care of him also.
As a result of my being put in the induced comas I found out much later on that it affected some of my brain functions as like remembering a lot of things and a few other things as well… my thinking is better this than being dead.
I couldn’t do anything for a long while as I healed and waited for 6 months to have the procedure to be reversed with another long operation. She did so much for me and at time her husband during this time taking care of both of us.
When it came time for my 2nd operation to have the colostomy bag reversed this is when my mom decide to tell me I almost died… I had the operation and it went well and had they closed me up nice. Well as it goes I as first time couldn’t eat for 2 weeks, and like the first time got an infection and was rushed into surgery once again and had to heal from inside out and it was worse than first time. I was in hospital for one month in my own room and on morphine. My mom was total wreck. Once I came home had to get a hospital bed for me in house and as well ha to hire nurses to come in everyday to change my dressings since healing from inside out. I couldn’t do anything for close to 2 years…She was taking care of both of us at the same time.
Her husband progressively got worse and was on oxygen for rest of his life and lost ability to do a lot and need a hover round in the house plus oxygen tanks and machine. He tried to run his business in the house until 3 days before when he passed in 2010.
This is when we found out that he cancelled his life insurance and told his lawyer not to tell my mother, meanwhile over the year he refinanced the house 2 times and my mom argued with him about doing this. When house was sold very few funds were left over. We don’t know what he did with the money that he got for refinancing it or what he used it for.
We had to list our house in which we lived in for more than 20 years. She used up her life savings paying bills and property taxes and the mortgage and food etc etc. It took 2 years to sell the house and had to take a big loss on it due to the market. It left her with nothing and just enough to rent another place till we found a place in south jersey where it was supposed to be cheaper which it is not and youhave to drive far just to go many places and closer to my sister. Nothing like living in Bergen County where things are close by and you can walk to alot of places.
We are trying to move back to North New Jersey in Bergen County where all her doctors are and you don’t have to drive 4 to 6 or more miles just to go to a doctor or basically anything in South New Jersey where we are now. If we really knew how bad it was we would have never moved here.
I hope everyone can reach out and help my Mother. A few of you all know my mother. For all of those who know me I have done things for a lot of people and always gone out of my way to help anyone and everyone and have never asked for anything in return at all every.
