Hi I'm Peter, and all my life I've wanted to be a writer. I've done a bit over the years, but mostly my career got in the way. Then, unexpectedly, everything changed for me.
In the space of several months I lost my job, was the victim of fraud, and suffered a family tragedy. Within 6 months all I had built up over the years was lost. Within a year I was homeless.
About a year ago I sat down one day and began to write the book that had been in me for years. I was still homeless, but within months had found a modest job that enabled to get my own home again.
I have continued to write, and am midway through the second draft of the novel, which has turned out much better than I ever expected.
Unfortunately the contract I was working on ended, and without income I face being homeless again within a month.
I'm turning to you out of desperation - I'm old school, and embarrassed to be doing this. I'm afraid of being homeless again though, and above all want to finish the book I have set my heart on.
I'm confident that the book is pretty good, but I'm still a couple of months away from finishing it, and much more than that if I am homeless.
The amount I have nominated is arbitrary. I don't know what it takes, nor what the future holds. I hope one day to publish a bestseller that will be made into a movie, and to become rich and famous as a result (naturally) - till then I need to survive. Which is why I'm here.
This life has taught me many things, not least humility. I can't tell you how thankful for anything you can contribute. You have my eternal gratitude.
Oh, and if you have a job, any job - I'm smart, capable and hard at it.
Now, the book - what's it about? I guess it's a journey of redemption. Think Heart of Darkness meets The Maltese Falcon. Maybe a bit of True Detective thrown in just because. Told in the first person, it's the tale of a Adam Lansbury, who bears the burden of his disgraced brother, and a life half lived as a result. One day he gets the chance to change that...
I hope it's suitably intriguing and mysterious. It's dark in places, and in places it's pretty sexy. It has some attitude. I hope it's more than just a piece of entertainment. I aim for literature with an edge.
I'm happy to post updates for anyone who's interested. Who knows, this could be the literary sensation of 2017. Get on board...
