Help Philly Kids See Black Panther

Donation protected

The release of Marvel's film the "Black Panther" is a rare opportunity for young students (primarily of color) to see a black major cinematic and comic book character come to life. This representation is truly fundamental for young people, especially those who are often underserved, unprivileged, and marginalized both nationally and globally.

Clarkisha Kent of TheRoot.com writes about the importance of the Black Panther film "Black Panther remains socially and culturally relevant because it imagines a world where black people continually triumph over the influences of capitalism, Western imperialism and white supremacy."

The idea for this campaign was originally started by a man in New York named Frederick Joseph. After seeing his success for the Harlem branch of his campaign, being moved by his activism and passion, and speaking with Fred himself, i decided to accept the #BlackPantherChallenge on behalf of the children of Philadelphia.

Fredericks' vision when he started this campaign:

"I want these children to be able to see that people who look like them can be superheroes, royalty, and more.”

Here is how we plan to make this work:

All proceeds will go to paying for the tickets for children and chaperones, refreshments, and the school busses needed for transportation to and from the theater.

School bus= $200
Average ticket & refreshment pack = $11-12 per person

I’m taking schools in large groups - around 150 in a group (with the exception of the class from LINC)

This means each group of 150 kids = $2,400 in cost!

The campaign will remain open for donations until March 6.

*All organization donations and movie/refreshment purchase receipts will be sent to campaign donors upon request after the campaign is finished.*

With the success of the Harlem campaign, let's bring that same passion to the kids of Philadelphia.
