I never thought in a million years I would be in this position but life takes us through different paths than we generally expect.
During my first year of university, I was diagnosed with hypothyrodism. For those of you that do not know, it simply means that my thyroid is not producing the necessary levels of thyroxine to keep my body going. My doctors were skeptical due to the fact that I was young and it wasn't common among people of my age but later ruled it out to genetic causes. Fast forward one year later and my doctor is explaining to me that my thyroid levels are fluctuating, my medication is not helping and there seems to be a lump in my throat. To my disbelief, two months down the line I was diagnosed with stage 1 papillary carcinoma (thyroid cancer). I was in disbelief for awhile, I just didn't want to believe that this was my destiny.
This week I visited the doctor again to discuss treatment options and the next steps and found out the cancer is aggravating. I'm now at the early phases of stage 2 thyroid cancer, which means my cancer is spreading to other parts of my body. The recommended treatment is surgery to remove the growing tumor on my thyroid gland and chemotherapy treatment to rule out anymore spreading cancer cells. I need it as soon as possible but my biggest obstacle is the financial toll it will take on my family.
I have had thoughts of giving up but absolutely refuse to believe that this is the end of the road for me. I still have many dreams, aspirations and goals I have yet to achieve. Above all, I know God is not through with me yet. I have instead chosen to look at this as an everlasting testimony for others. I plan on battling this disease and inspiring others to do the same. I please urge and beg you to help me in any small way you can and donate to my cause in order for me to receive the appropriate care.
