Help Kalin get to Haiti

Hi everyone! As some of you may know, I study issues around global poverty and development. Although I have conducted research and explored these topics, I have never seen the inequalities I study first-hand. In an attempt to comprehend my studies and interests more fully, I am going to work in the Pont Morel and Leogane communities in Haiti from May 20th to June 5th. I will be participating in research in community development, as well as helping with the public health initiatives of YourStory International.  


All of my Peace & Justice classes have taught me that the only way to achieve progress is to start from the ground up and learn from local perspectives. Due to cultural differences, there is no way to clearly understand what people in developing communities truly need to improve their quality of life without talking to them directly. During my time in Haiti, my main focus will be conducting interviews with people in the communities to try to understand what is and what is not working for them, and what we can do to make a meaningful and sustainable difference. The program I am working through is based in providing service with measurable results.


Because my service experience requires food, flights, and safety precautions, there are some costs involved that I can not cover - which is why I am asking for your help.
