Helping Uganda & the 22STARS kids

Donation protected
Hi my name is Raquel, and I am selected in the volunteer program of the 22STARS foundation in Uganda. The 22STARS foundation is based in the Netherlands, but carries out all their projects in Uganda. They use education and entrepreneurship to empower children and their families to rise above poverty. They create long-term sponsorships for children in Uganda, and have already more than 200 children that found a long-term sponsor. In addition they  run several community development initiatives including a nutrition program, basic needs program, small business training and micro loans program and our holistic educational program with extra-curricular activities.

Have a look at their website  www.foundation22stars.org  if you like to find out more about their programs, and their founder Stella Airoldi, who I want to help with the activities in Uganda.  While being in Uganda I am going to help Stella, and the project-managers Susan Laker (for the Acholi Quarter slum in Kampala) and David and Aidah Wafula (for the Danida slum in Jinja ). I will help them setting up more extracurricular activities for the children and the women. I am going to inter alia, give extra English classes to children who need a bit of extra help. And I will give workshops on self esteem, positivism and empowerment among just the view things that I will do over there. I will also take over the social media account of the 22STARS foundation for the period that I am there and will do way more things: you can follow me daily in the activities that I am doing.

Since the 22STARS foundation runs fully on donation money that goes for 100 per cent to the education of children and their projects, they have no money to pay people like me to help them with their activities. Therefore I will go there as a volunteer and give them all my time and not be paid for this. However to get there and to cover my accomodation expenses and food I need your guys help!  I will need about 900 euro to cover my flight and visa, and 180 euro a week covering my food, accommodation and transport. In addition I hope to raise enough money to give the children a proper lunch during the workshops, so they will not sit with empty stomachs there and listen to me. In addition I want to buy pens, books, mosquito nets, water filters and mattresses for the children. And depending on how much we raise even clothes and toys.

WHAT DO YOU GET?  Everyone that makes a donation will receive a jewellery gift from the 22STARS jewellery line, a social business that is closely connected to the 22STARS foundation and  empowers women in Uganda to rise above poverty by helping them designing jewellery and selling it at the international market. They have a beautiful collection of necklaces, bracelets, earrings and bags for men, women and even kids. Everyone that makes a donation, please send me your address, so that once I am home I can send you a thank you note and a jewellery item.

100% TRANSPARENCY.  At the end of the trip I will show you all the receipts of how I spend your money.

Why Uganda?
Twenty years of civil war took a heavy toll on children. Although there is peace now in Uganda, the battle against poverty continues. The parents of most of our kids are illiterate, traumatized, HIV positive, became pregnant at a very young age, and have to care for a large family. Many of the kids lost one of their parents or even both.

A better future is possible and once they will be doctors, teachers or engineers, they will also be able to give back to the communities.

Thanks for your help!
