Helping Sue Holder and her young family

Donation protected
If you have been lucky enough to meet this beautiful lady and her 3 children, you will never forget them. Sue is a completely selfless person spending her time helping others; from her work with Indigenous youth and various sporting associations within the Katherine region, to looking after and supporting her daughter who suffers cerebral palsy and having an open house to assist others with disabilities whenever needed.

Sue lives in a remote town in the NT which does not have the facilities to perform complex operations. Due to this, Sue has had to travel long distances for specialists appointments (Katherine – Darwin is 300km) and for the surgery in Brisbane (3400km away)

In September, Sue went into surgery for what was meant to be a straightforward removal of a tumour from her brain. After 12hrs and 22mins she was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to begin her recovery. Two days later she was moved to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) as she had suffered some setbacks as a result of the surgery.

The following 6 weeks she has been bouncing back and forth from the ICU to HDU and back again. Thankfully, she is finally in a ward and has begun rehab and is continually working hard on small actions she once took for granted. She now lives with constant pain and nausea every day and will be unable to go back to her job for some time. The surgery has left her suffering weakness down her left side, causing facial palsy and an impaired eye that no longer closes.

She requires further surgery over the upcoming months due to complications from her previous surgery. Because of the severity of the injuries she will need to remain interstate, away from home, for many more months to come.

Though Sue has emotional support from her family, they need our help to return home and ease their financial burdens while she suffers through this ordeal.

Sue is always giving and now it is our turn to give back to her.

On behalf of Sue’s children and all of her family, thank you so much for all of the donations and the heart-warming & encouraging comments. They are all helping Sue through this difficult time.

Thank you.
