Helping Ross Buckingham

Ross Buckingham is a man who ‘puts his hand up’ when others need assistance. When the local footy club were looking for an assistant coach for their reserves team, he put his hand up. When they were looking for someone to coach the reserves a few years later, Ross put his hand up.
Portarlington Cricket Club were faced with a player shortage. They had forfeited their 4th Grade match for the first time in many years and the club looked like losing it completely. The 3rd grade team was also facing a player shortage and many junior cricketers were doubling up and playing in the afternoon as well as in the morning.
When the cricket club put a shout out for players to assist, in typical fashion, Ross put his hand up. On the 30th of December when helping out in a third grade game, Ross took off for a run. He fell over and he could not get up. He looked at his lower and he could see dent where his Achilles should have been. Further scans confirmed that Ross had an 80% tear in his Achilles tendon.
Ross is a sub contract builder and he is unable to work for at least 6 weeks and quite possibly for a substantial period beyond. Ross was of the belief that he had income protection through his superannuation scheme, however, they have found a way to avoid paying his loss of income. This has left him without an income. Ross’ wife, Karen, runs a local café (a sponsor of our club) and she now has to take on another job as a personal care attendant just to meet their mortgage payments. She also has to take time off from work to drive Ross to his medical appointments.
We are asking for people to contribute to Ross’ cause. Without the Ross’ of the world, many sports clubs would fold or battle to exist. Without financial support for players who are injured, there would not be many people willing to help out when a club is in need.
Ross needs assistance with transport costs, loss of income and the upfront costs of medical treatment. We are asking for a contribution of any amount. It is what we do at Portarlington Cricket Club and at many other clubs across Australia.
