Helping Kelly Live

The Update:

Friends, family and supporters Kelly and I would like to thank you for the tremendous support shown to her in the last few months. It still continues to be a difficult road ahead. Medical bills continue to mount along with setbacks in her chemotherapy treatments. Kelly has had treatment delayed due to problems with her white blood cells fluctuating due to sudden bone marrow issues. For those who have undergone chemo, you are familiar with the delays in treatment. Kelly may have to have her WBC forcibly stabilized at a desired level by injections which we were told were very expensive. This injection can even further delay her receiving her fourth round of treatment. Meanwhile the medical bills that we are able to pay have been paid, yet we are still having difficulty in managing them along with paying for her prescriptions. We were just notified Friday that Kelly is responsible for a portion of the chemo costs, which is another example of how much our health care system has changed. As her spouse I am trying to do everything I can to take this burden away from her and from us.

The Beginning:

After waiting for what seemed like six hours to see Kelly after surgery there was only one thing on her mind. I could look in her eyes and they told the story of longing. Longing to receive a confirmation. “ Was it cancer?” Heart racing, I search for an easy way out. After being told by the surgeon that it was and not to tell Kelly, I could not lie to those eyes at that moment. Yes. It was stage 2 borderline stage 3. I could see her chest sink and her eyes give way. Yes Kelly Marie Lacy has stage 3 cancer, she had her entire reproductive system taken and placed in a specimen bucket. The cancer had traveled to other organs and her lymph nodes. She is facing two years of chemo treatments. We are faced with mounds of medical bills and an uncertain future with each other. We remain strong in our faith that with God, it is all possible. The cost of the doctor visits, chemo treatments, hospitalization at separate facilities, surgery and countless imaging exams and lab work has made the need urgent. The prescriptions is a mounting financial burden. Kelly has absorbed all of her leave at work and must now accept leave without pay.  Kelly has already been through health issues prior to learning of cancer.  She struggles daily with lupus and sjogrens disease. Now enters cancer.   Kelly found out about cancer because of painful urinating episodes.  After it finally became unbearable she went to an outpatient clinic where she was instructed to find the nearest ER as soon as possible.  It was eventually discovered there were two huge masses on her ovaries which pressed against her bladder.  If she had not experience this pain, Kelly would not have gone to the ER and quite possibly would not be here at this moment.    I will attend every appointment and chemo treatment with Kelly for any support and because I have endless love for her. She is everything and I will do all I can to make sure she survives.  We are asking for your assistance in trying to help Kelly with these finances. Those that know Kelly, know she will do anything for anyone ...now it’s our time to help save her life.
