Help Taylor Regain Freedom

Thanks In Advance For Being Nice and Taking the Time To Read This…

Boy...life can throw a loop your way sometimes.

My family seems to in one of those situations and we’re trying to make it happen and need a little help.

My son Taylor is a strong, friendly, smart 15 year old. Taylor has cerebral palsy and relies on his motorized wheelchair for mobility. The wheelchair acts as Taylor’s legs, and provides him with the ability to freely explore the world outside our home.

Recently, we replaced both batteries in his wheelchair. This depleted every cent of the funds I had saved for repairs on his chair. Almost as soon as we purchased the batteries, the right motor in his chair blew up. If that wasn’t bad enough, the right wheel also fell off the chair as Taylor was using it.

Now, Taylor’s means of getting out and hanging with his friends like any other 15 year old boy has vanished. So we have decided to create this fundraiser to help restore his freedom as quickly as possible.

Help Taylor Regain Freedom

Sometimes, life throws you a bag of lemons. When that happens, you have two choices... accept it dejectedly... or try to turn it into lemonade. We're determined to make the second option happen!

We are raising funds to help cover the costs of much needed repairs to my son’s wheelchair as well as to the wheelchair accessible van he travels in. Now, due to some extreme kindness, we’ve worked out arrangements with the various people who can help repair these two things...

But we need to first *raise* the funds to make it happen.

To put the above in perspective:

Imagine yourself at 15, laughing with your friends, and having *fun*.

You are growing up and becoming independent.

Forming your own opinions and views of the world.

Now...

Imagine that freedom is suddenly *ripped from you*. You must rely on your family to carry you from room-to-room as if you were a young child. It’s humiliating and demoralizing. Your newfound independence as a young person has evaporated overnight.

This is what Taylor has faced by the loss of his chair. It’s almost too much for him to cope with.

No one wants to be limited – least of all, Taylor. He found such freedom with his motorized wheelchair and van. It breaks our hearts that he is no longer able to explore the world outside of our house.

Without a functioning chair, Taylor isn’t able to . . .

* Visit his friends’ homes and enjoy a laugh or two

* Get to the park to enjoy nature - which is such a big part of his life.

* Go to the store to pick out his own clothes, which is huge to a 15 year old who wants to fit in.

* Meet his friends at the movies and lose himself for a few hours

Taylor’s chair needs to be fixed as soon as impossible so he can enjoy the things other kids his age take for granted.

The problem with the chair is bad enough; however, there’s also an issue with our handicapped accessible van which Taylor uses to transport his chair.

It was recently involved in an accident which made it unroadworthy. So even if his chair gets repaired, he’ll still face limitations because of the much-needed repairs to the van.

As a family, we simply do not have the means to cover even a portion of the van repairs.

Our family is facing some real financial difficulties at this time. Taylor's grandmother (my mother) was recently diagnosed with cancer. His grandfather (my father) is an injured vet with limited income. This means they cannot help Taylor financially because of their own financial struggles.

As Taylor's mom, I am on a very strict monthly budget. Our funds are extremely limited, so I’m often short of money after I’ve taken care of food, house and household bills, and medical necessities. I just don’t have the funds for repairs to the chair and van at this time - and it’s severely impacting Taylor’s life.

And so, as hard as it is, I find myself asking for your help to get Taylor’s chair and van repaired. Please recall the days when you were 15 and wanted to kick back with your friends. Understand how vital mobility is to your personal freedom as you drive to the store, go to the movies, and to work.

Now, think of Taylor, a fun-loving 15 year-old boy, staring out the window, isolated from his friends and activities, unable to take part in life outside our home. All because of some simple repairs which would instantly restore his freedom and independence.

It would mean so much to the entire family for each and every donation received to help get Taylor’s freedom back - no matter the amount. Thank you and God bless!
