Help Guayama Puerto Rico Survivors

$2,800 of $3,500 goal

Nearly a year ago I returned home to Puerto Rico to gather with my extended family. It had been nearly 50 years since I lived and went to school there. We had a gathering of about 25 and ate lavishly ...  a simple meal -- a large pot of rice with pork and two chickens to share among us. Not a baby cried for long, no arguments, lots of joy and laughter, sharing and music... a true celebration amongst a grateful family who had very little but who reflected what a true family is all about.

The island then an oasis of blue seas and of palm trees.  Now imagine a year later an island that looks like a war zone with uprooted trees and black water as a result of Hurricane Maria.

Now imagine life under martial law, limited access to funds as banks will only allow $100 withdrawals, boiling contaminated water to bathe in and drink, 8-9 hour long lines to get fuel, limited or no cell service, no electricity, 2 million chickens dead resulting in limited access to eggs, food rationing, most roads in disrepair, and only limited access to clean water, the list of the devastating impact of Hurricane Maria goes on and on. Months, if not years, of recovery is expected to cost billions.

Check out "Feature Story Aid To Puerto Rico" with Yuko Kodama on KBCS FM (7:55 AM) where I share more about my family's plight in Guayama, Puerto Rico and how you can help!

The interview starts at 7:55 am on Morning Blend Hosted by: Judith Lindsay

This GoFundMe account has been established because my family, like many rural families on the island of Puerto Rico, will not see support or help for weeks or months because the infrastructure has collapsed.

This fund will help to support their needs including their need for :

- bottled water
- solar laterns
- canned goods
- flash lights & batteries
- fuel
- food
- diapers, baby food & baby wipes
- toothpaste & toothbrushes
- hygienic products

Join us in helping those in need who are on the fringes and who may not ever get help if we don't help them now!

Hi everyone! I got some good news yesterday. B & E Meats and Seafood offered $1000 to our GoFundMe Account to match dollar for dollar up to $1000. If you planned on contributing funds even $1 will turn into $2.

Right now we have $1105 in the fund and $50 cash. I have 1000 plus FB friends. Make just a $1 donation or more each and we will hit our $3500 goal.

All four B & E locations will continue to collect food and supplies for the foreseeable future.

Please help if you can and share our message too. Let’s not forget Puerto Rico.

Thank you all for your continued support and a special thank you to both B & E Meats and Seafood and McCarthy and Schiering for hosting yesterday’s event!
