Uganda - Documentary on Education

Masese, Uganda – a refugee village of 25,000

Yesterday... 2009- this community had no hope. There was  no education, no school, no clean water, no sanitation, malaria and yellow fever were rampant, and children were lucky to eat every 3 days.

In April 2009 with one teacher and 45 children, HELP International/Uganda, a non-profit organization, started the free HELP Primary School for the children in the slum village in an open-air barn with no walls, electricity or books.

HELP Uganda is run by a small group of US volunteers from NY, CO and WY, without any help from large sponsors. Every dollar raised goes directly to the project, as the only employees of the project are the Ugandan citizens that work for the school.

Today... there is hope. The school now has over 550 children who receive 2 meals a day, have access to clean drinking water, use latrines, receive medical attention if cases of malaria and yellow fever arise, increased income for community with vocational training, and micro-business loan programs

Tomorrow... hope springs eternal. HELP Uganda has started a building campaign to offer the opportunity for more uneducated children to attend HELP Primary School in a healthy, safe school building with electricity, a leak proof roof, a library, a vocational center for illiterate adults, and expansion of micro-business loans to develop a self-sustainable economy for the entire community.

The goal of this documentary would be to show what the education system was like in Masese, to what is being done now and even the future of the programs brought by HELP Uganda. In order to do this documentary properly, we have to travel to Uganda, speak with the people of Masese, and be a part of the support that is bringing the community up. A little bit of support can go a long way in any of these developing countries. -Film Equipment Insurance

-Finishing and Distribution of the Film

Any Dollar amount above the final goal of $14,275 goes directly to HELP UGANDA for their programs. All Donations go directly to the process of making this documentary for HELP UGANDA.
