Helping Bureng Rebuild

Donation protected
Last night, June 30th, a heavy downpour of rain destroyed a lot of houses and homes in Bureng Village in the Lower River Region of The Gambia. A few hundred people have lost their homes and a lot of personal belongings. According to reports we received and images we have seen, there is hardly a home that is spared by the torrential rains.

A distraught home owner looks at the destruction!

The destruction is so extensive and runs into the thousands of dollars.

One of the dozens of homes destroyed!

The main village mosque seen above is damaged and the carpets inside soaked wet. With no equipment to immediately dry the space, a lot of these will need immediate replacement.

Bureng is a small town that is several hundred years old. It is located in the Lower River Region of The Gambia, with an estimated population of less than 5000 people. The population of Bureng are largely poor, and are generally a subsistence farming community that largely depend on small scale agricultural production and small remittances from relatives who were lucky to go to school and currently work in the cities or live abroad. The literacy rate (Western education) of adults over 40 years is about 10%, with women at an even lower literacy level. The rainy season is a very vulnerable season for most in this community and other communities in rural Gambia. By this time food stocks are exhausted and most people struggle daily to make ends meet.

So as a charity registered to assist the community of Bureng, the Bureng Association USA, Inc. seeks your urgent and generous support to help the distraught people of Bureng. All donations will be sent to Bureng immediately to assist with buying food and helping to rebuild homes. Bureng Association Inc was formed in 2016 by natives of the small town who are residing in the USA.

More photos of the destruction caused by the wind and the torrential rains.

A fallen tree, destroyed a house and fencing.

Once again give to the desperate victims of the torrential rain wind destruction. We thank you for your generosity and concern.

Sincerely,
