Little Amalia Is Fighting Cancer

Amalia's Story (Mommy's Words):

"Sorry about Mommy's breath." I lied to my daughter for one of the first times in her little life. The sore in her cheek had swollen so large that it broken open, releasing a smell of rotting flesh. She knew I was lying, and she knew something was wrong. "It's okay, baby. There's nothing wrong with you; I am your mommy." I held back tears the way mom's sometimes have to.

My 2-year-old daughter had a sore throat, and then a swollen cheek. Doctor after doctor misdiagnosed the symptoms as "part of an infection", and she took round after round of antibiotics. But something was wrong, and nothing was working. They took a biopsy of the growth in her cheek, and we waited to hear.

In the begining I didn't want to know how cancer stages worked, prognoses, or "chances of recurrence".  I didn't want to understand any of it because all that mattered was that she would get better. I did find out, though, and I understood that a "stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma" was very serious.

Then the chemo began. Sometimes I think the chemo is worse than the cancer (but I know it is killing the cancer, so I am grateful). In the first two days her white blood cell count dropped dangerously low, and her red-cells followed closely behind. She had to have an emergency blood transfusion. Since that week, we are back and forth from the Ronald McDonald House near the Cancer Center for treatment, and we are grateful for all of the good and precious moments we have. The vomitting is hard to watch, sometimes so violent that I think we may have to call 911. I recently heard her vomitting, and ran to get her. When I walked in, she was laying beside her vomit, and looked up at me to say "I'm tired mommy". There are lots of belly rubs and popsicles.

Make no mistake: Amalia is strong, and she is showing me what it means to be a fighter. She is still a happy kid in general. But she is tired and sick, and she hurts most of the time. My heart is dying for her.

On top of ALL of this, my husband and I have had to leave our jobs and abondon our incomes. Financially we feel like we are being crushed. We have other children to take care of, but we can't afford much travelling. We desparately need help, and every little bit will make a difference.

If you can't give, please share this. Thank you in advance.

 Gabe's Story:

Dear face facebook friends, family... everyone. The baby girl in this photo is my sister. She is 2 years old, and her name is Amalia.

She is going through so much physical and emotional pain right now; so much pain that the thought of it brings me to my knees. She is in Seattle, Washington in the Childrens Cancer Center, and has been for months now, due to a large "rhabdomyosarcoma" tumor in her mouth, jaw, neck and airway. It started as a swelling in her cheek than was misdianosed several times. It now has spread to her spine and pelvis.

Both of our parents are currently with Amalia, staying off and on in the hospital, and at a nearby Ronald McDonald House room. Because of this, both of our parents are out of work, and we have no income.

We are greatly in need of any financial support we can get. Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated, much more than you can know. Please share and get the word out as much as you can. If you can't donate, sharing is as good as donating just so others can see and reach out.

I love this little girl with all of my heart, and I want to be able to have a home for her to come back to when she finally completes her treatment. YOU can help ensure that happens.

Thank you very much, and God bless.
