Al's Continuing Medical Needs

Donation protected
Many of you know Alan, as the hard working, sports loving, family centered man. One who never complains, loves to laugh and make conversation with his crazy jokes. Our father, however, has been struggling day to day with the debilitating, progressive autoimmune disease Multiple Sclerosis for the past 18 years.

There have been many ups and downs during the years; more recently, our father has needed continued care around the clock. Al has lost most of his ability to stand on his own or complete simple daily tasks: such as getting dressed, using the restroom, and eating. One month ago our father suffered a major setback when he contracted an infection which ultimately resulted in Sepsis. During this time, his health has significantly declined to the point where he can no longer stand on his own. He spent a week in the hospital and has since been transferred to a sub-acute rehabilitation center. Our goal, with your help, is for Alan to celebrate his 59th birthday on April 8th at home with his family and friends.

After receiving a home evaluation and consulting multiple doctors and experts, we know he will require more advanced medical equipment, such as a motorized wheelchair and a handicap accessible vehicle.  We will also need Connie, Alan's homecare aide, for more than the 40 hours a week she currently works, and he may need an additional caretaker. While there are immediate services and equipment needed for Alan to come home safely in the short term, he will ultimately require a steady increase in health care as his disease inevitably progresses.

Unfortunately, Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive disease and as a family, we have to remain proactive and anticipate the next stages of his illness. Now more than ever, we want to ensure his ability to live at home with pride and dignity, while receiving the medical care he needs.

Please help us provide a comfortable and safe life at home for our father. All donations will be utilized for all aspects of Al’s continuing care.
