Help Women Who Create become a non-profit!

Donation protected
Hi friends,
After one amazing year with Women Who Create, we have decided to go forward with becoming an official non-profit and LLC.

Women Who Create is a mentorship program dedicated to mentorship and creating community among creative women of color in New York City. In our inaugural year, we've reached over 200 women, just through word of mouth and social sharing.

We're planning on expanding our program this year and we need help! We are funding the cost of business ourselves and we'd like the ability to legally request donations.

Why WWC Matters:
Being a woman of color in the creative industry can feel lonely. Looking around, there may be no one, or very few people who look like you. As women, and especially women of color, we are paid less, we occupy fewer leadership positions, and often feel undervalued for our unique contributions. By coming together as a unit, we can  support one another and create a space for learning to help us reach our personal and professional goals.

The Stats:
- 90% of creative directors are men
- 88% of young female creatives say they lack role models
- 70% of young female creatives say they've never worked with a female creative director

- 11% of woc hold a managerial position
- < 8% hold a Sr. Managerial position
- < 4% hold a C-Suite position

- Representation of minorities in advertising:
Asian 10.85%
Hispanic/Latino 9.25%
African American/Black 5.85%

Why is it important to become a nonprofit?
- A nonprofit corporation has its own separate existence. It can enter into its own contracts, sue and be sued. (AKA so I don't get sued personally)
- A nonprofit protects directors, officers, and members against being help personally responsible for their company's debts and liabilities.
- Tax exempt status
- Access to grants
- Tax deductible donations. This is an important incentive!
- Credibility

The money will be going towards creating and filing the Articles of Incorporation, completion of by-laws and EIN application, completion of 501c(3) application, creation of LLC and required documents, and service cost of a consultant. Any additional funds collected will go towards monthly maintenance costs.

What the future looks like for WWC:
- Expansion of program to include digital mentorship and chapter locations in big cities outside of NYC
- Professionally revamping our website and social properties
- Creating programming for our community around important issues such as financial literacy, leadership, and personal & professional growth.
- Developing a content hub for relevant topics in our community and creating a job platform
- Paying ourselves so we can pursue the dream of making this our day job in the future!
